Antivirus Settings

To change, update, or review your anitivirus settings, access the HTML administrator interface, type admin.winproxy on a computer connected to your WinProxy network. After you have loaded the administrator interface click on the "Antivirus Settings" bar located on the left of the administrator interface screen.

At the top of the antivrus settings screen you will see all the information about your antivirus subscription, including: (vendor) which antivirus scan engine is being used by WinProxy- in this case it is Panda Software, (Scan Engine Version) in this case it is 2.10.1.6_3.1.5.211 this number is important in case you have support questions as it will let the support department understand whether your antivirus engine is up to date or not, (Pattern File Version) in this case it is pattern file #3 which includes 65503 virus definitions and was last updated (Timestamp) on 01/29/2003 at 10:21:25

There are 185 days remaining in the subscription.

WinProxy will automatically check for new Scan Engine and Pattern Files every 4 hours unless you have dail up which updates once a day. In the event you would like to cause WinProxy to check for a new Scan Engine and Pattern Files, you can click the "Update" button under the Action field at the right of the antivirus subscription information.

Below the antivirus subscription information filed are the configuration options for the antivrus features in WinProxy.

Proxy Server for Updates

This group of settings will allow you to configure WinProxy to automatically obtaint antivirus updates.

If the WinProxy computer has direct Internet access through your Local Area Network, then no proxy server configuration is needed.and you should click on the circle adjacent to the words "No Proxy (WinProxy has direct access to the Internet).

If the WinProxy computer does not have direct Internet access, you will need to configure WinProxy so that it can perform its automatic Antivirus Pattern File and Scan Engine updates. To do this, click the circle next to the words "Classic Proxy" and then enter the appropriate IP address corresponding HTTP proxy port.. Once the appropriate information has been entered, you must commit the changes by clicking the "Save Changes" button..

If your WinProxy computer accesses the Internet using a SOCKS Proxy then you should should click the circle next to the words "SOCKS Proxy" and then commit the changes by clicking the "Save Changes" button.

Protocols to Scan

This option is used to enable/disable the protocols that WinProxy is currently scanning. You can enable scanning for the supported protocols by checking the box next to each protocol. Once enabled scanning works for all client computers connecting to the Internet through WinProxy; you cannot exempt any computers. To ensure that scanning works for applications on the WinProxy computer itself, we recommend that you se up those applications to use Classic Proxy whenever possible.

WinProxy scans more protocols for viruses than any similarly priced application, keeping your network safe from malicious code and hackers in an easily implemented solution at low cost.

File extensions

Drop Files

WinProxy can be configured to prevent certain file types from passing through. E.g. If executable files are not allowed to pass across your network, you can ensure this by adding the ".exe" file extension to this option, and WinProxy will stop these files from passing through (.vbs is needed to get Windows updates).

Don't Scan Files having Extensions

WinProxy can also be configured not to scan certain file types. By default, there are two file types set in this option: .gif and .jpg.

Mail Restrictions

Checking this box will cause WinProxy to drop files that appear suspicious because the file fits the profile of a known MS Outlook vulnerability. This will help to secure your network if you have users who access their email through MS Outlook.

Don't forget to click the Save Changes button after making any changes to the settings on this screen.
