AccessNow Lite

The AccessNow Lite option in WinProxy is designed to allow you to connect your client computers to the Internet, without having to do any configuration to the client computers. This option is located in WinProxy by clicking File > Settings > General tab. It is the last option on the General tab:

AccessNow Lite technology helps solve connectivity problems by offering instant Internet access with no settings to change, no IP addresses to obtain (note: TCP MUST be installed on the client computer), and no subnet masks or gateways to negotiate to properly configure a user's computer for the network. Users simply plug into the closest Ethernet port, and they are immediately connected. This allows systems that have mis-configured TCP information to still connect out to the Internet. The client computer does need to have a gateway listed, even if the gateway is incorrect for your network. By checking AccessNow Lite, you can even allow your laptop from work to connect out through WinProxy, without having to change any of the settings that are already pre-configured in your laptop for the network at your office. This allows you to move freely and easily between the two networks.*

Note:If your office notebook points to an internal computer for sending mail (SMTP), then DNS will not resolve this name and you will need to configure the address of the SMTP server, so that you can send outgoing messages. This is not an issue if your office is using a DNS qualified mail server that sits on the Internet, such as mail.yahoo.com

Using ARP Exclusions and The AccessNow Lite feature

Built into the Administrative Web Interface (http://admin.winproxy) is a link for ARP exclusions, which is used in conjunction with the AccessNow Lite feature. By adding an ARP exclusion, you can tell WinProxy to ignore connection requests to specific IP addresses. For example, imagine that you have a print server at 90.0.0.100 If you enable AccessNow Lite, any connections to that server will be routed out to the Interent.

By adding an ARP exclusion for the 90.0.0.100 print server, any time WinProxy "sees" a connection request to that IP address, it will ignore it.

To add an ARP exclusion, open your browser, connect to http://admin.winproxy, and click on the ARP exclusions link on the left-hand side. Click the 'New' button, then enter in the IP address and subnet mask* of the system that you want WinProxy to ignore. That's it! WinProxy will now ignore that IP address, which in this case is 90.0.0.100:

Note:To block a single IP address, use a subnet mask of 255.255.255.255 To block an entire class C address range, use a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0
