WinSock Redirection Service Central Configuration

Using the functionality contained in the Central Configuration screen, it is possible to configure settings for every WGIC user on your network.

Consequently, there is no need to configure individual WGIC machines separately.

Click Add on this tab to produce the WRP User Config dialog. Then you may use the Recipient tab to select which users are subject to the settings that you may configure in the other tabs - the General Settings and Application tabs.

General Settings Tab

Default Mode - Select from:

  • Local (Use other method)
  • Mixed (LSP Authentication, other method)
  • Global (Use LSP)
  • Internet Denied (No internet access)
  • Application Denied (Not allowed to run)

The default mode will be used if the application cannot be found in the Application List (maintained in the Application Tab) or if the Application List is disabled.

Note:
Using a default mode that terminates all applications, and specifying only the applications you allow your users to run, is a good way of preventing unauthorised programs being used on your network.

  • Track connections - check this box to track all connections for each mode that you select
  • Inform the user if internet access is denied - via a system message on the client side
  • Inform the user if an application will be terminated - via a system message on the client side.

General

  • Check the central application list - for policies relating to each application
  • Check the client's application list - for policies relating to each application - this is less secure than using the central application list.
  • Use WGIC for authentication only - this simply lets the server know who the client is; WGIC won't accept socket applications or do anything else.

Note:
LSP stands for 'Layered Service Provider'. An LSP is a system driver linked deep into the networking services of Windows. It has access to all data entering and leaving the computer, as well as the ability to edit this data. Some LSPs are necessary to allow Windows to connect you to other computers, including the Internet.

Applications Tab

Click on the Add button to produce the Edit Applications dialog box. This is where you configure settings for each WGIC user, per application.

Application - the name of the application you are configuring WGIC options for. This will always be an .exe. Bear in mind that you enter the application name only - do not specify the path.

Mode - Select from:

  • Mixed (LSP Authentication, other method)
  • Global (Use LSP)
  • Internet Denied (No internet access)
  • Application Denied (Not allowed to run)
  • Track connections for this application - check this box to track all connections for the application.
  • Inform the user if internet access is denied - via a system message.
  • Inform the user if an application will be terminated - via a system message.

Note:

WRP Central Configuration is only available to WinGate 6 Enterprise Licenses.
