Email - Adding Domains Configuration

General Tab

Type the name of the domain for which you wish WinGate to perform special processing.

Default Delivery Method
The default delivery method is a quick and convenient way to set up delivery of mail. Without having to configure email addresses for each accepted email address in your domain, WinGate can automatically deliver all mail for a domain to the local mailbox that corresponds. For instance, if there is a user in WinGate called ‘info’, then by default the address info@qbik.com would be delivered to their local mailbox. If that user was disabled, or did not have an email mailbox configured, then mail for info@qbik.com would be rejected. Alternatively, you could redirect all mail destined for info@qbik.com somewhere else by creating a specific address handler, and then there would be no requirement to have a local user or mailbox called ‘info’.

Addresses Tab

Use the Add, Edit and Delete buttons to maintain your list of address handlers for this domain. Clicking the Add button will bring up the Address Handler configuration.

Enable reception of mail for addresses where no matching address handler exists…
This setting influences how the default method of delivery is used for this domain. If you have this option selected, and the default delivery settings for this domain specify Mailboxes for this domain are hosted on this server, then mail will be delivered to any matching local mailbox, and any Address Handler you specify will override the processing for the respective address. If on the other hand you have this option disabled, then only mail for which there is a matching email address handler will be accepted for delivery. This option then can be used in conjunction with Add All local Mailboxes to quickly define the complete set of email addresses that will be accepted by WinGate mail. If the default settings for delivery for the domain specify Mailboxes for this domain are hosted on another server, then again, whether mail will be accepted for delivery or not depends on the following: If this option is selected, the WinGate will not verify email addresses, and will forward all mail for the domain to the remote server. If this option is not selected, then WinGate will only accept mail for addresses that match an address handler, and forward that mail to the remote server, or as otherwise specified in the particular address handler.

In this way it is possible to get WinGate to block mail for all non-existant addresses in a domain, even if that domain is hosted on a remote server.

Domain Aliases Tab

Use this tab to maintain the list of aliases for this domain.

For a domain, the concept of an alias is sometimes useful to combine all mail for several domains together. For instance if you host several domains on your mail server, but you only have one set of mail users, who each have an email address in several domains, you can reduce the amount of configuration required by setting up domain aliases – this means you don’t need to set up a specific domain handler for each domain.

As an example, any address in the Qbik.com domain has an equivalent address in any domains listed here. This also means that for instance the address info@qbik.com will be handled the same as the address info@wingate.com and info@netpatrol.com if these other domains are listed.
