Qbik Wingate

The Dynamic Binding System
With WinGate 6.0, Qbik has introduced a new way of dealing with service bindings. In WinGate and many other server applications, a binding is an association between a network connection point (in many cases the combination of an IP address and a port number) and a network service (e.g. a mail server or web proxy). This defines the interface over which a server process will provide service to clients. It stands to reason therefore that in order for a service to be accessible to a client, it must be "bound" to an interface that is accessible to the client computer.

Transparent Redirect
Transparent Redirection allows all WinGate Internet traffic to be routed through the proxy level of communication without the hassle of configuring proxy settings on each client workstation. WinGate client computers connecting through the WinGate Internet Client (WGIC) software or Network Address Translation (NAT) require no additional configurations to share the Internet through WinGate. The Transparent Redirect feature extends the functionality of these client connection methods by allowing client computers to communicate over the proxy layer, and benefit from the WinGate plug-ins, Kaspersky AntiVirus and PureSight for WinGate, without having to configure or adjust network or application settings.

WinGate's Winsock Redirection Protocol (WRP). A white paper comparing WRP with SOCKS and Network Address Translation (NAT)
The purpose of this document is to provide insight and understanding for the need to introduce WinGate's Winsock Redirector Protocol (WRP) as a means of IP Multiplexing. IP Multiplexing for the purpose of our discussion, is the sharing of a single Internet connection and IP address to provide Internet connectivity for an entire network. WinGate provides this basic functionality. WinGate and its competitors are collectively known as "proxy server / firewall products".

Internet Management Through WinGate
WinGate contains all of the necessary tools to track Internet activity and allows you to take appropriate actions to safeguard against identified abuse. Managing Internet usage is a necessity in today's workplace. When your employees use the Internet for non-business related activity while on the job, the result is a loss in productivity, reduced bandwidth available to customers trying to reach you online, and in some cases, legal penalties. WinGate contains a variety of features and plug-ins designed to assist administrators to ensure that Internet usage is not abused, and that users comply with company policies.

How NAT Works: How Does General Purpose Internet Sharing (NAT) Work?
When two computers are on a local area network (the same subnet) they have a direct connection to one another. This means that they can send data directly to one another. However, if the two computers are on different subnets then they no longer have a direct connection. Something must forward the data between these subnets and this something is called a router (it can be hardware or software). This is the case whenever your computer is attempting to connect to another computer on the Internet (e.g. to view a web page).

All You Ever Wanted To Know About IP Routing
In IP-based networks, the concept of routing is one of the most commonly misunderstood, yet important issues. It can make or break a network. Routing misconfigurations can have weird, wonderful, obscure and seemingly magical negative effects. It is often considered a black art.
