Internet access monitor. Mail access monitor. Where to store the outdated files?
Whether your company is large, small or very small — it doesn’t matter. Your proxy (and mail) server log files will grow continuously anyway. And the room required for storing those files is going to increase. Since disk space cannot just grow larger, we need to think how to free up the space wisely and promptly.
To carry out this important task, Internet Access Monitor and Mail Access Monitor have a special tool called Log file management.
This tool works as follows.
If the option Enable log file management is selected, before each log file import process the program verifies the log file modification time. If the file is outdated, a certain procedure will be carried out over it.
Which files are considered outdated? If a log file has been imported by the program and if it hasn’t been modified the number of days specified in the program, the log file is considered outdated.
Outdated files can be processed one of the following ways:
- Removed from disk
- Moved to selected folder
- Added to selected ZIP archive
We strongly recommend to add old files to ZIP archives rather than delete them, for they may be necessary a few times in the future. Here’s another tip to remember. When log file management is enabled, the speed of importing log files may increase significantly since the program will no longer have to spend time on opening, verifying and so on the outdated files, which have been removed or moved to an archive.
