Advanced settings. Groups.

The program allows creating two types of groups: the user groups and the IP-address groups.
On the "Groups" tab, you can add, delete, and edit groups' contents and also create rules for automated user grouping. On the same tab you can also import user lists and group lists from Active Directory (users database stored on the domain controller).

Group members

Clicking on the "Group members" button will open a dialog window where you will be prompted to select the objects (users or IP addresses) that should be added to the selected group.

Importing users from Active Directory

Should you want to synchronize your lists of users and groups with the ones stored in your local network domain controller's database, you can import the data using the program's capabilities of Importing From Active Directory.

Once you have selected your domain name and clicked on the "Refresh" button in the "Users and groups" window you will see the tree with names of all groups and users. Next, you should check the items you wish to import and click on the "OK" button.

Grouping rules

The program has a procedure that automatically adds new users to the specified groups upon completion of each import process.

Add items to this group if none of grouping rules trigger - if this item is selected, then in the case when none of the grouping rules triggers and therefore the user or IP address is not added to any group, that new user or IP address will be added to the selected group. This option is useful when it is required that none of users or IP addresses should remain ungrouped.

Wildcards - list the wildcards for user names and IP addresses (using special characters '*' and '?'). If user name or IP address matches at least one of the specified masks, the user will be added to the specified group.

"Delete" - clicking on this button deletes selected grouping rule.

Saving and restoring group list

Once you have completed your group list and grouping rules setup you are highly recommended to save this list to disk by clicking on the "Save list to disk" button. This feature is especially useful when for some reason you have to remove the database completely. In such case, simply save the list to disk and later load the list from disk to the new database. (Please note: restoring a list from disk should only be performed once the user list has been created in the program. Otherwise, the group list will not be restored completely).
